JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi says he handed in his resignation immediately after Sunday's victory in the African Cup of Nations final.
Keshi told South African radio station Metro FM on Monday that he resigned immediately after Nigeria beat Burkina Faso 1-0 to secure the Super Eagles' first African Cup title in 19 years. Keshi said the country's federation had threatened to fire him before Nigeria's match against Ivory Coast.
Keshi could not be immediately reached for comment.
Super Eagles spokesman Ben Alaiya told the AP on Monday night he hadn't spoken to Keshi or team officials, and did not know if the coach had resigned. Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi declined to immediately comment.
