The first digital brain in the world
Neuroscientists think that by building the first digital brain, they will give new hopes to fight against mental disorders, especially against Alzheimer’s disease and autism. Subsidised by the European Union, the Human Brain Project is being created in a supercomputer at the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology in Lausanne. More than 200 researchers will work on this project which is expected to take about 10 years to complete. It aims to map all 100 billion neurons connected by 100, 000 billion synapses of the human brain on a single computer system. Professor Henry Markram, who is leading the research, has declared that this new instrument should allow looking deep into the brain, giving more information on brain diseases.
