Wizkid's Impostor Nabbed

An EME impostor is currently in police custody. He was handed over to the police by his latest victim- Muyiwa.
"Impersonating artists and record labels is apparently the new 419. This is not a unique problem to EME or it's acts, but a serious challenge to most major labels/artists as well as the fans and event organizers.
We've done the best we can to streamline our processes so that anyone, anywhere can contact us at Bookings@empirematesentertainment.com and know that they have right information."
"It saddens us to know that crooks still try to take advantage of our fans and supporters but we are doing all we can to put the right info out and we hope that everyone takes note, so as not to fall into their traps."
On Wednesday afternoon, June 19, Wizkid visited the Zone 2 command Onikan of the Nigerian Police force for another case involving an imposter who collected N500,000 from some University of Lagos students.
Wizkid was invited alongside his manager Godwin Tom for questioning by the police after he was accused of collecting money and then failing to appear at Uni Lag's Concert of Life gig which took place at the institution's Sports Center on May 21st. He was at the station for a few hours and was only allowed to leave after he'd written a statement and bailed by his lawyer.
EME says the police will continue to apprehend other impostors.

Photographer drags TuFace, wife to court over wedding pictures.

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed October 16, 2013 for the commencement of trial in a N120million copyright suit filed against popular music star, Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. TuFace, his wife, Annie Idibia and their manager, AnthonioAnifite over photographs allegedly taken at the recent traditional wedding
of the musician and his wife in Akwa Ibom State. Abuja based photographer, Emmanuel Okolo, who is the plaintiff in the suit alongside his studio, Papilonmexy filed suit against the defendants. *Tuface and Annie Idibia during their traditional marriage He is asking for six reliefs, two of which include N100 million in general damages and N20million in exemplary damages. At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, neither TuFace nor his wife was represented in court. Anifite who is the second defendant was however represented by his counsel, J.O Uttute. Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued when the judge openly admonished Uttute after the latter claimed that he had filed his defence when he had not done so. The judge warned him not to come to this court again if he was not prepared for the case. “You told me that you have filed your response, but looking through here, there is nothing to that effect. And you are even smiling. Do you think you are here to joke? Never come to this court again if you are not prepared. You don’t even know when the case was filed and you are not prepared for it,” saidthe judge. Also, the plaintiff’s counsel, Habeeb Oredola expressed worry over the defendants’ inability to appear before the court or be represented by a counsel after they were served with the writs of summon. In the writ of summon, Okolo and his studio claimed they were contracted by TuFace’s wife through a third party, identified as Ms Chineze Anyaene to take photo shots at the traditional wedding held in Eket, Akwa Ibom state in March, 2013. The plaintiff said, he was reluctant at the beginning since the offer was coming through a third party, but later accepted after he was convinced that the offer was actually with the blessing of the first defendant. Annie Idibia was said to have later contacted the photographer after the wedding and demanded for the printing of 10 of the high resolution pictures taken.

Chris Brown faces new charges over car crash.

Chris Brown

R&B star Chris Brown has been charged with a hit and run and driving without a valid license. Lawyers for the district attorney's office in Los Angeles say the singer gave false insurance information and refused to hand over his license after his car hit a Mercedes last month.

Both offenses together carry a maximum of one year in jail. Chris Brown is on five years' probation for attacking his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. If a judge rules the charges violate his probation, reports suggest he could face up to four years in jail. 'Be a better person' The 24-year-old tweeted that he had done nothing wrong and would clear his name. He wrote: "It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous. "I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene." The tweets continued: "She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures. "I work my ass off to provide for my entire family. I've made mistakes in the past and have worked hard to be a better person." Brown assaulted his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend in 2009 and accepted a plea deal of community service, five years' formal probation and domestic violence counseling. Six months ago, it was claimed he was involved in another fight, this time with singer Frank Ocean, over a car parking space outside a Hollywood recording studio. Police said Brown was under suspicion for punching the victim but the case was dropped after Ocean decided not to press charges.

Flo Rida Banned From AA Arena!

Flo Rida Banned From AA Arena!
Rapper Flo Rida, who hails from Florida as his name indicates, was banned from Games 6 and 7 of the NBA Finals because of Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich!
The rapper and his manager, who see themselves as Miami’s version of the Knicks’ Spike Lee or the Lakers’ Jack Nicholson, were not happy about it. They believe that Pop was simply scared of them because they rooted too loudly and rowdily for the Heat.

It’s not Flo Rida’s first time being banned from an arena, though. During Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Flo Rida was ejected for trying to intervene in a fight between Norris Cole and Jeff Pendergraph....

4 yrs after: Nigeria’s Michael Jackson blames self!.

Walko-Chilko

Less than a week to mark the fourth year exit of  king of pop music, Michael Jackson who died on June 25, 2009, his Nigerian look-alike, Michael Eze popularly known as Walko-Chilko, has blamed no one  but himself for his inability to get in touch  with the “stage idol” while he lived.

Walko-Chilko
Expressing regrets in a chat with Showtime during the week, Walko-Chilko  said, “ The greatest mistake I have ever made in my life was my inability to meet Michael before his death. While he lived, people advised me to send my photograph to him, but I never took the advice seriously until after his death.”
Speaking further, Walko-Chilko  revealed that when PMAN used him to welcome Marlon Jackson to the country a few years ago, the first question the latter asked was whether his brother knew his activities.
The Imo State-born pop singer who is returning to the spotlight with a new album, ‘Come Let’s Heal The World,’ described the late king of pop as “ the greatest entertainer that ever lived in the history of the world.”
However, explaining why he decided to imitate the late Michael Jackson’s lifestyle even after his death, Walko-Chilko noted that they share a lot in common. “I play pop and I’m a good dancer. I  believe I have the same look with Michael Jackson despite my colour. I admire Jackson very much and I believe even the life a black man is living today is imitated,” he explained.
The pop star’s new album is being dedicated to the late Michael Jackson’s Heal The World Foundation. According to him, Jackson’s legacy has to be sustained.  “I wrote the song in support of Michael Jackson’s Heal the World Foundation. It was written because children of the world need helping hands.”
The  10-track  album also features songs like ‘My Love is Free”  ‘Pretty Mama Jama”, “Peace for Africa”   and ‘African Heroes’.
According to Walko-Chilko, the songs in the album are mainly party songs that flow with the trend.

Why I hate Nollywood – Tayo Elesin, British-Nigerian actress.

Tayo-Elesin-412
www.oscargist.com
Tayo Elesin is a British-Nigerian actress. She also prefers to be referred to as a “storyteller.”  Famous for her roles in some BBC TV productions including Casualty, Law and Order, Doctor, among others, Tayo has also acted in the critically acclaimed play by late Ola Rotimi ‘Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again’ produced last year by Lookman Sanusi. While in the country recently,
she paid a courtesy visit to the Vanguard corporate office, where she spoke passionately about playing the role of younger Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala whenever a biographical film is done about her. She also disclosed  why she hate the name ‘Nolly-wood’; and how to reposition the Nigerian film industry, among other issues. Enjoy!
Tell  us how you came about the coinage, Brigerian?
It’s simple, I’m British and I’m Nigerian. I merged the two words and came up with “Brigerian.” I identify with the two countries.
Do you have any intention to work with Nollywood stars?
I don’t like the word, Nollywood. I really don’t like it.
Why?
There are several reasons. One of which is, when I think of the word, Nollywood, quite frankly, it reminds me of a mimicry, if you will, of Hollywood. Now, Hollywood is the home of the  American film industry. It’s actually a location in Los Angeles. I have found nowhere in Lagos or in Nigeria called Nollywood. Except if you are telling me it’s located in the Mushin or Ikorodu area of Lagos.  But I’m yet to see  such a place in Nigeria.
Tayo
That’s why I don’t agree with the word, Nollywood. Incidentally, the word, Nollywood was not actually created by a Nigerian, but by a newspaper publication back in the States which started to identify Nigerian films as Nollywood. But when you read through that article, it wasn’t used respectfully like Nollywood. Rather, it was used to describe the film industry in Nigeria in a mocking way.
But Nigerians took it up and turned it the other way. But for me, Nigeria is a big country with a flourishing film industry. It doesn’t need to mimic the word, Hollywood. Also, there are films from countries like Finland nobody calls such films Fin-wood, or British-wood referring to films from Britain. It’s called British films. What I want to see is a Nigerian film to be called a Nigerian film. There is no need for the mimicry at all. We don’t need it.
You have such an interesting body of work, both on stage and on screen. How do you combine the two genres conveniently?
I always tell everybody I’m a storyteller. That’s what got me into this career-storytelling. Storytelling in a different medium namely; radio, television, stage and musical. A storyteller is a storyteller no matter the medium you adopt to tell your story. A true mark of a storyteller is one that can actually do different things using different mediums.
One thing about screen acting is that it requires you not over-act as being natural because the camera picks up everything. But in stage acting, you can afford to go forward and backward. While voice-over is all about the voice because nobody can see you as it is peculiar to radio. But the mark or testament of any good actor is one’s ability to tell a story in whatever medium. I can do anything using any of the mediums.
But which do you feel more comfortable doing?
There is something about the stage because it’s live and you cannot afford to miss your lines. But for screen, they can cut, stop and edit. Everything is done in the editing room. To be honest, screen is not for the actor. It’s for the DOP, directors and editors, those people have fun because they cut and paste as they wish. But on stage, there is no cut and paste. You are either there or not, you know your lines or you don’t. You either tremble or you stand. There is something electrifying about that. And most good actors will tell you that there is something about the liveliness of the stage. But the thing about screen is that it pays your bills. Television and films in the UK pay a lot more money than stage. You can do a TV commercial and you significantly get a lot of money.
There is this film you acted in called “Moremi”. How challenging was the role you played in the film?
I played the role of Moremi herself, and I love the film. It was produced by Spectrecom Studios and had Joachim  Adenusi as the Executive producer. Actually, it was not a full-length film. I want to say something at this juncture; What really angered me about the Nigerian film industry is that Nigeria as a country is rich with stories. Why has nobody done a biographical movie about Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, for instance? Why is it that other people are taking our stories and telling them in the western world anyhow they deemed it fit? I don’t understand.
Moremi is a fantastic story. Outside the world, other people are appreciating our art. Why are our film makers not taking advantage of this global appreciation of our work of art?  I’m a bit worried because a lot of our film makers have not explored this opportunity to make great movies about their country.
You have volunteered to play a young version of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. What is the attraction?
What  attracts me about Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is her level of education, her poise and what she has actually achieved as a woman in the financial world. It is not easy for a woman anywhere in the world to occupy such a powerful position let alone, in an African country. It’s even ten times harder and the fact that she has maintained it and has also retained it even up till today is absolutely admirable. I think, if you look into her life, one will be surprised to come up with an interesting story about her upbringing.
Recall that Ngozi Okonjo Iweala attended Harvard University at a time, I’m sure it was not easy for a black person to be there. If Hollywood film makers could do a film about Abraham Lincoln and are also talking about doing a biographical film about Obama, why can’t Nigerian film makers do a biographical film about Ngozi Okonjo Iweala who is a major female figure in the African financial industry? I’m sure if I conduct an interview with her right now, there will be a story about her life that has not been unravelled. This is because I suspect she wouldn’t have gotten to where she is today overnight.
What would you say actually prepared you for what you are doing today?
I don’t know what actually prepared me for what I’m doing today. But I would say that ever since I was a child between the ages of 13 and 14 years, I knew I was a great communicator. And for me, it was either going to be between acting and studying Law. Actually, I was qualified for both professions but I have a strong passion for acting. I didn’t just wake up and say, I’m going to be an actress. I wanted to communicate to my audience, and I found out that acting is a good medium to communicate through the story telling device.
I wanted to tell the story of a prostitute, a Christian woman, the poor and the rich people. That’s what artistes do. We tell stories with the hope that such stories will entertain and morally instruct the people. That’s the main purpose of any work of art. I hope that all the work that I do will portray all these ingredients.
What was the first production that brought you to limelight?
It was a TV programme called “Casualty” by BBC.
I played the role of a Bully. I also acted in other BBC productions like “Doctor”, “The Journey of Alfred Small”. But “Law and Order was the production that made me. I have done all the stuff. I did Musical Theatre which involves singing, dancing and acting but I look forward to acting more than others. I’m still working to build up my career. I’m not an established household name yet,and that’s what I’m working towards achieving at the moment.
While in the UK, have you experienced any kind of racial discrimination?
Yes. It’s not easy for a person of colour living in the UK or USA to work at the highest level. Yes, racism is inevitable. However, like I always say, talent supersedes anything. It may2 take you a longer time but with talent combined with enough hard work and dedication, this is something that is beatable. I’m not held down by the fact that I am black. In fact, I know that I’m black and I don’t need anybody to tell me I am.
For me, I go to auditions and I look at myself the same way the white woman there will at herself. I apply for the same role. If they take me or they don’t take me, that’s not important, but I’m not scared ever applying for any role because of my colour. I don’t believe in judging somebody by the colour of his or her skin.
Tayo
Also, I don’t think I have had any bad experience so far. But dealing with the press can be an experience on its own. Obviously, there are times when people want to know more about your personal life and things like that . I try as much as possible to protect myself from such things. Yes, I’m a celebrity but it’s not everything about my life I would want to put in the public domain.
Would you want to star in Nollywood films?
I intend to tell good stories. I’m a story teller. If a good story comes from Nigeria, South Africa, Italy or from any part of the world, I will do it. The thing here is that a good story is a good story irrespective of wherever it’s emanating from. If a Nigerian film maker has an excellent story and it’s directed by a tested hand, why not? I will do it. But I don’t think I can answer the question; ‘do you intend to be part of Nollywood’ because of the fact that I don’t agree with the word, Nollywood.
What’s your assessment of films    from Nigeria?
I think Nigerian movies are getting better and better every day. This is an industry that is about 20 years old and it has recorded remarkable progress in the time frame. I think, with more training for actors, producers, directors and structure put in place, the industry has the ability to make more progress in future. For instance, we need agents and managers who will deal with contracts so that artistes don’t have to be bogged down by these things.
A producer and a director should not be having a meeting with me about my fees. They should be talking to my agent and manager. Over here, they talk to artistes directly. That’s not how it’s meant to happen. An actor is a creative person. What I want to deal with is the story and not discussing my fees. That’s left for my agent to handle. Also, there is need for structural things like casting directors.
The casting directors are people who cast the right actors to the right roles. For example, if they are looking for a 50-year old Igbo man, a casting director will go all out in the search for an Igbo man within the age bracket of 50 and 60 years and bring them in for audition and choose the right one from the lot. But, it’s not so. A director should be a director, a producer should be a producer while a casting director should be a casting director.

Wizkid vs Unilag students: ‘I don’t do cheap money’, singer tweets.

The past few days has seen Wizkid caught up in spiraling events that has either threatened his life or almost landed him in trouble! First it was a near-tragic automobile accident involving his newly acquired Porsche Panorama and then on Wednesday afternoon, June 19; a near-detention incident at the Zone 2 command Onikan of the Nigerian Police force after he was invited to explain why he allegedly collected N500,000 from some University of Lagos students and then failed to appear at their show.
The story is just unfolding. According to investigations, Wizkid was invited alongside his manager Godwin Tom for questioning by the police after he failed to appear at UNI-LAG of Life which took place at the institution’s Sports Centre on May 21st. He was at the station for a few hours and was only allowed to leave after he’d written a statement and bailed by his lawyer. *Wizkid He was asked to report to the station next week. Observers say, these Uni-lag students may have been scammed by an imposter and this is what Wizkid thinks too. He tweeted My Camp and I don’t do cheap money! If you want to book me for a show holla @my team @Godwin Tom or @DisturbingLDN Wizkid is smokingly expensive, with performance fees shuttling between 2- 3million naira. It takes only those with financial guts to walk up to him for a performance. The case is now a police wahala; Wizzy and his camp have refused to discuss the matter any further.

Slim Whitman, US country singer, dies at 90

Slim Whitman, the American country singer known for his yodeling abilities, has died at the age of 90. His son-in-law confirmed he died of heart failure overnight on Wednesday at Orange Park Medical Centre in Jacksonville, Florida. Whitman had a string of hits in the 1950s and through the 1970s. His 1955 song, Rose Marie, held the record for the longest reigning number one single in the UK until Bryan Adams broke the record in 1991.
Born Ottis Dewey Whitman Jr in Tampa, Florida, in 1924, Whitman spent time in the Navy before embarking on a music career, which began after he was approached by Elvis' manager, Colonel Tom Parker, who heard him singing on the radio. Signed to RCA Records, he released his first single, I'm Casting My Lasso Towards the Sky, in 1948. Breakthrough
It marked the beginning of a career spanning some six decades during which he recorded more than 65 albums and sold millions of records worldwide. Having struggled for the first few years of his musical career, Whitman's breakthrough hit came in 1952 with his cover of Bob Nolan's Love Song of the Waterfall, which peaked at number 10 in the US country chart. Whitman was known for his ebony moustache and sideburns While considered to have been more popular in Europe and particularly the UK than his native America, his 1952 track Indian Love Call and 1954 song Secret Love, both reached number two on the US Billboard country chart. He had a further two top five hits in the US that same year. Whitman's signature ebony moustache and sideburns inspired countless jokes, thanks to the TV adverts that promoted his music. But he was a serious influence on music at the time and encouraged a young Elvis Presley when the singer made his professional debut. In an interview with the BBC in 1973, Whitman recalled working with Presley in 1955. "He was just a guy on the show," he said, adding: "And then he started wiggling and then he took over the show"Filmography Whitman was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry following the success of Rose Marie, which spent 11 weeks at the top of the UK singles chart. It reached number four in the US. Known for his mellow, romantic melodies, he became the first country singer to play the London Palladium in 1956. He followed the appearance with a string of hits in the UK including Tumbling Tumbleweeds, Unchain My Heart, and I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen in 1957, another UK top 10 hit. He also appeared in the rock and roll film musical Jamboree in 1957, along with a hostof other music stars, including Carl Perkins and Fats Domino. During the 1960s, Whitman had a series of minor country hits in the US, including More Than Yesterday in 1965, Rainbows Are Back in Style in 1968 and Tomorrow Never Comes released in 1970. His last album, Twilight on the Trail, was released in 2010 He continued to record in the early 1970s and was a guest on Wolf man Jack's popular TV music show on NBC, The Midnight Special. "The material I did was lasting material,'' Whitman said in 1991. "A lot of people thought I wasn't doing anything, but I was in the studio. The biggest factor is the material you choose. You hunt, you cut." He was introduced to a much younger audience when his rendition of Indian Love Call was featured in the 1996 film Mars Attacks! In 2003, Rob Zombie used Whitman's song I Remember You in his directorial debut, House of 1000 Corpses. Whitman released his latest album, Twilight on the Trail, in 2012 - his first new studio record in 26 years. Whitman told the AP news agency in 1991 he wanted to be remembered as "a nice guy." "I don't think you've ever heard anything bad about me, and I'd like to keep it that way. I'd like my son (Bryon) to remember me as a good dad. I'd like the people to remember me as having a good voice and a clean suit," he said. Whitman is survived by his daughter, Sharon Beagle, and his son, Byron Whitman.
